Fine surface microgrooves that make the face bite again — each with its own strength. Not sure which one suits you? In doubt, L-40 is the proven standard.
For context: microgrooves do not significantly affect your shot dispersion. They can support grip to a small degree, but not necessarily — the effect is subtle and varies from player to player.
